Root Canal Treatment: What You Should Know Before Getting One Done

Dental issues are pretty common among all ages. But, you should make sure to keep a check of your teeth related issues and get it treated by a dentist at the earliest. Sometimes, the issues will get out of hand and it will be too late to get it treated. So in order to avoid this, make the earliest visit to your dentist to get your teeth checked every now and then.

Some of the major issues won’t be visible to the eye, but you might experience certain pain in your teeth every now and then. If this occurs often, it is wise to get it checked by your dentist, as this may be the cause of some underlying issue. Just like your teeth, your root needs to be checked well too. And you can get a clear examination done for your roots at our dental clinic. If there is an underlying issue that has been observed, our endodontist will suggest getting a root canal treatment done. Before going ahead with the treatment, you should learn a few things what root canal treatment is all about.

What Is A Root Canal?
A root canal is a treatment that is mainly done to fix your tooth when it has been infected and decayed to a very bad extent. Root canal treatment is mostly suggested by most of the endodontist so as to relieve toothache and to prevent it from falling off. Usually, root canal treatment is done for the patients when the dentist spots an infection or any inflammation lying in the roots of your tooth. There are chances of your tissues getting infected which surrounds the teeth if this doesn’t get treated.  Although this root canal treatment helps in relieving pain, it also protects the other teeth from undergoing any strain. The tooth is then cleaned and sealed by getting out all the pulp and the nerve during this root canal treatment.

Why One May Need A Root Canal
Root canals are usually recommended to get done by an endodontist for a cracked tooth that is resulted from injury or genetics, a deep cavity, or issues from a previous filling. If the patients start noticing any changes in their teeth where it becomes sensitive to hot and cold sensations, then it may be a sign that your teeth need a root canal treatment. Sensitive teeth is a way of letting you know that harmful bacteria are getting into the nerves of the jaw and must be removed. When this is left untreated, bacteria and decaying material can cause a serious infection, leading to pulp death, bone loss and sometimes even the loss of the tooth itself. Signs and symptoms may include swelling around your face and neck, a hole in your tooth, toothache or tooth pain, gum swelling, and temperature sensitivity.

How Can You Prevent Root Canal?
Our teeth have to be treated with much care and all the dental health problems can be prevented when you strictly follow oral hygiene. But some of the main reasons for inflammation and infection in the nerve of the tooth and cause of the pulp are because of large fillings, deep decaying etc. Even when you spot a tiny plaque or dirt, make sure you brush your teeth and also to make it a regular habit by brushing twice a day, flossing at least once a day, and also to schedule regular dental visits. Following these may reduce the need for a root canal procedure in the future.

There’s no need to be worried if our dentist or endodontist prescribes a root canal procedure to treat your damaged or diseased tooth. Endodontic treatment or root canal treatment can help you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime.
