August 15, 2021 - By Bruce Michaelson

Teeth play a huge role in our bodies. Therefore, caring for teeth has been a priority activity in our lives. Often, children and adults are aware of the importance of dental care. As parents, it is also important to take care of your baby’s teeth as well. According to our dentists, teeth and gum care should begin even before the first baby tooth appears. However, we at American Dental Clinic in Dubai provide all the correct treatments for children’s oral diseases.

As first-time parents, you might not have enough experience to take care of baby teeth. However, as a leading American dental clinic in Dubai, we can help you with the above concerns. We have listed out a few oral care guidelines for you to protect your baby’s future smile.

  • Clean the gum line

Bacteria and sugar particles can cause pain in your baby’s gums. Therefore, make sure to wipe your baby’s gum right after the first feeding of the day and before sleep.

  • Clean baby mouth

Even before the teeth begin to come in, you should clean your baby’s mouth at least once a day with a soft cloth. You can do this as a regular habit.

  • Give them fluoride-rich food.

Fluoride plays a major role in tooth-related considerations. It prevents plaque-producing bacteria from eroding the dental enamel. Moreover, it also helps teeth that have been injured by acid to rebuild themselves or remineralize. As a promising method of maintaining the toddler’s fluoride needs, giving them food which is abundant in fluoride, such as spinach, potatoes, etc.

  • Prevent tooth decay

Tooth decay is caused by bacteria that form on teeth. Therefore, it is better to discuss with your dentist about fluoride varnish on your toddler’s newly erupted teeth as a better preventive method.

  • Teach them how to brush their teeth

When the child is growing, they must be able to brush their teeth totally by themselves. But you have to give them proper guidance. Guide them to brushing their teeth twice a day and help them to make it a habit.

  • Choose the proper toothpaste

For small children, it is better to use fluoride toothpaste. This is because it prevents the baby’s teeth from developing cavities and weaknesses. Apart from that, it helps the enamel to be strong.

  • Avoid large amounts of sweets

Children love to enjoy sweets and sugary foods. But it is one of the most harmful practices regarding baby teeth. When they consume sugary foods, the bacteria reactions form different kinds of acids in the gumline. As a result, it severely impacts the enamel of baby teeth.

  • Feed them healthy food

The diet gives enough resources for the growth of your child’s teeth. Apart, it helps with teeth protection as well. So, it is essential to feed food with good nutrients.

  • Visit your dentist regularly

As new parents, you might not be very familiar with teeth problems and abnormalities of baby teeth. When the child is growing, the jaws also develop accordingly. But sometimes, baby teeth may show some abnormalities, such as non-alignments. Dentists can even identify signs of problems in your baby’s mouth. It will help to prevent complex issues with your toddler’s mouth. When your baby is about one year old, it is better to visit a dentist for the first time and twice a year for the rest.

More often, early dental visits are probably very important for toddlers.  If you require any oral care services, we at American Dental Clinic in Dubai are always there at your service. We aim to provide dental care of a consistent quality for all patients, especially for first-time parents.
